Impressive Performances Highlight Virginia Tech Invitational

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The University of Richmond women's track and field team had its first indoor action of 2017 this weekend and showed extremely well in multiple events en route to an overall successful weekend.
One of the top highlights was sprinter Mary Allen who began an incredible weekend with a new school record in the 300m (39.30) on her birthday no less. She followed that up with an impressive time of 24.77 in the 200m, finishing second in that event.
Maria Acosta continued her hot start to her collegiate career, finishing fourth in the 400m with a time of 59.25. Freshmen Nai'lah Rowe and Gabby Bowen went on to finish ninth and 10th, respectively, in that event as well.
In the distance events, freshman Claire Brown kept on showing why she will be one of the best distance runners in this league for a long time a fourth-place finish in the 800m, posting a time of 2:18.97. Amanda Corbosiero paced the Spiders in the 1000m run, galloping to a time of 2:52.49. Haley Preschutti finished 14th in 2:59.32.
But the distance runs weren't over yet. Shelby Cain posted a second-place finish in the 3000m with a time of 10:06.50 as the first of six Spiders to post top-15 finishes in that event. Ave Grosenheider (10:12.02) finished third, Colleen Carney (10:21.44) finished fifth, Eryn Mills (10:26.76) came in seventh, Emma Nowak finished 14th (10:53.91) and Jordan Angers rounded out the top-15 with a time of 10:53.91.
