Spiders Keep Rolling With 6-1 Win Over Duquesne

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – You know that old saying, “it's not how you start, it's how you finish?" Well, the University of Richmond men's tennis team is taking that saying to heart.
On Friday, the Spiders wrapped up their regular season with their seventh straight win, a 6-1 defeat of Duquesne.
“Obviously, it's always a good thing when you end the regular season with such a strong finish like we did. Today, I liked our poise and the aggression we continued to play with on the singles courts,” Head Coach Ben Johnson said. “We're less than a week away from the A-10 Tournament and that's what our sole focus is right now.”
Richmond swept the singles courts, winning five of the six matches in straight set fashion.
“We started a little slow, but I was happy with our guys responded after dropping the doubles point and really turned the match around quickly,” Johnson added.
After the Dukes grabbed the doubles point, junior Jacob Dunbar set the tone in singles action, quickly making work of Duquesne's Corey Robinson at the top spot, 6-3, 6-3. It was Dunbar's ninth consecutive win in singles action and he now sits at 16-6 this spring.
Classmate Alexandre Felisa continued his hot streak, following Dunbar with a 6-1, 6-2 victory of his own at the #2 spot in the lineup.
Sophomores Caleb Troy and James Aronson locked up the match for the Spiders, each winning, 6-3, 6-2 at the fourth and fifth spots.
Juniors Canyon Teague and Alex Hahn wrapped up the singles sweep for Richmond with wins at #3 and #6 to secure the seventh straight win.
Richmond now awaits the final seedings for the Atlantic 10 Tournament next weekend in Charlottesville at Boars Head.
