UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – With the conference tournament just a few weeks away, the University of Richmond men's tennis team appears to be hitting its stride at just the right time.
The Spiders battled their way past Atlantic 10 and in-state rival George Mason, 4-3, on Tuesday afternoon for their fourth consecutive victory.
Juniors Jacob Dunbar and Alexandre Felisa, along with sophomore James Aronson, keyed Richmond's victory, picking up victories in both singles and doubles action against the Patriots.
Dunbar and Felisa teamed up to grab the first doubles match, which was followed by Aronson and his partner Canyon Teague, fighting their way to a 7-6 (4) win at the third doubles spot to earn the doubles point for the Spiders.
Dunbar quickly made it 2-0 in favor of Richmond with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Mason's Aaron Capital at the top spot in the singles lineup.
After the Patriots got a point back, Aronson made it 3-1 with a win at the fifth singles spot, taking down Mason's Giuliano Buzoianu, 6-0, 1-6, 6-0.
Mason would fight back to tie it up, but Felisa would deliver the knockout punch, battling through a three-set victory at the second doubles spot, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 over Mason's Joe Hill.
Richmond returns to action on Saturday when they host Saint Joseph's at 1 p.m.
