WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Richmond women's soccer suffered its second straight shutout loss Sunday, in a 3-0 loss to No. 23 St. John's at the UNCW Soccer Stadium in Wilmington, North Carolina to finish the Hilton Garden Inn Mayfaire Invitational.
The Spiders drop to 2-4 overall, while SJU is 7-1. The shutout was the sixth for St. John's this season, and the third forced on the Spiders.
Senior Rachel Daly had a goal in each half for the Red Storm, giving her a team-leading seven this season.
“I thought we played a solid game in many areas, but there were a few moments when we made critical mistakes and those will kill you,” said Richmond head coach Peter Albright. “Rachel Daly is a full international player. We knew about her, but didn't do a good job dealing with her. “
The Spiders managed seven shots in the game, but none of them were on goal. Forwards Meaghan Carrigan (Greenville, South Carolina) and Lexi Prillaman (Magnolia, Delaware) led the squad with two shots each.
Richmond freshman goalkeeper Jessica Stanfill (Fitzgerald, Georgia) made three saves in her third game of the year (1-2). SJU keeper Katie DeVault played just the first half, and did not have a save to improve to 3-0 this season.
“It's a concern that we are conceding too much field position and not getting enough offensive pressure,” added Albright. “We are getting better and looking forward for our final readiness for conference.”
Following the final game of the Invitational, freshman Keaira Clark (Potomac, Maryland) was named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Spiders will look to get back in the win column at ther next contest, a road game Friday at James Madison, with the opening kickoff at 5 p.m.
