RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond women's tennis team downed the Bucknell Bison, 5-2, Friday evening at the Midlothian Athletic Club.
The Spiders got off to a strong start as they swept the doubles portion easily. The Bison only tallied three points at the most in each match.
“Our doubles continue to set the tone for our matches,” commented Richmond head coach Mark Wesselink. “It really helps our confidence going into singles up a point.”
Anna Abadias Morales and Melissa Kandinata took the first match 8-2 on court one, while Brittany Boys and Katya Salas impressively took an 8-1 victory on court two. On court three, Gaby Rosales and Emily Gitman defeated the third duo, 8-3.
Courts three through six secure the victory for the Spiders. Rosales took care of business at the third spot, pulling out the 6-4, 6-3 victory on court three. In similar fashion, Boys took a 6-4, 6-2 win on court four.
Salas and Kelsey Williams were the final victories for Richmond, tallying two-set wins on court five and six, respectively.
“Today our depth pulled us through, but the team knows we have a lot of weapons and ways to get it done,” added Wesselink.
The Spiders will be back in action Friday, Feb. 27 when they travel to St. Joseph's for an 8 p.m. Atlantic 10 matchup.
