Men's Tennis Blanks Delaware At VCU 4-1 Invitational

RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond men's tennis team opened the spring season with a 5-0 win over the Delaware Blue Hens Saturday at the Thalhimer Tennis Center.
The Spiders got things going when the pair of sophomore Canyon Teague and freshman James Aronson defeated Shane Jeffray and Alex Sweet 6-0, 6-1 to win the doubles portion.
Up 1-0, Richmond then got wins from all four singles matches. Redshirt-senior Ethan Dunbar easily recorded a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the top spot, while younger brother Jacob Dunbar charted the 6-4, 6-4 win over Matt Renzi a court down.
Sophomore Alex Hahn played on court three and took a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Tyler Flematti and freshman Caleb Troy rounded out the victory with a 6-2, 7-6 (4-0) win over Tim Puterio at the No. 4 spot.
Prior to the Blue Hen defeat the Spiders dropped its first match to the Belmont Bruins, 3-2.
Richmond won the doubles point thanks to Teague and Aronson, while Ethan Dunbar was the lone singles win for the Spiders.
Richmond will be back in action when it Saturday, Jan. 24 when it travels to Navy for a 12 p.m. start.
