WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Richmond women's tennis team kicked off the spring at the William & Mary Tribe Saturday afternoon at the McCormack-Naglesen Tennis Center. The Spiders fell, 6-1, after taking the doubles point.
“Our doubles teams just keep getting better,” commented Richmond head coach Mark Wesselink. “They are anticipating each other's shots and getting much more aggressive. I liked our fight in singles against what will be a nationally ranked team, but we are not near our potential yet.”
The Spiders got off to a strong start as the duos of Anna Abadias Morales and Melissa Kandinata took a 7-5 victory over the Tribe's top doubles team. Then at the No. 2 spot, Brittany Boys and Katya Salas secured the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Roy/Casselbury.
William & Mary secured the victory as it took all six singles matches. Freshman Gaby Rosales was the only Spider to take a Tribe to a third set as she fell to Olivia Thaler, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 on court four.
Richmond will return home Saturday, Jan. 31 to host Navy at 5 p.m.
