Soccer Opens At Robins Stadium This Weekend

After seven matches to open the season away from home, Richmond women's soccer starts a home stand that includes five of the next six in Robins Stadium starting with the home-opening match Friday night at 7 p.m. against Princeton.
Richmond continues the home weekend at 4 p.m. Sunday against Old Dominion.
Admission is free for women's soccer at Robins Stadium. Both games will also be streamed by SpiderTV and are available on the Atlantic 10 Digital Network.
The Spiders have scored one goal in both of their matches last week, both losses. UR is 3-4 on the season. The Spiders offense has possessed the ball well and has peppered opposing goalkeepers with shots. UR is averaging 16.3 shots per match, allowing less than 12 per contest this year. The Spiders have doubled the shot total of opponents (64 to 32) in the first halves of matches this season. Three Spiders have more than one goal, and nine team members have at least a goal or an assist, with redshirt freshman Meaghan Carrigan (Greenville, South Carolina) leading the way with four goals. Junior goalkeeper Emily Kelly (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) has posted 20 saves so far this season.
Richmond is 1-2 all-time versus the Tigers, winning on October 6, 2000. The Tigers have not been beaten in their last three matches and are 1-1-2 on the young season. The squad was unable to score in its first two matches, but has found the back of the net twice in the last two contests. Senior Lauren Lazo leads the team with three goals this season. Senior goalkeeper Darcy Hargadon already has a shutout to her name this season and has given up eight total goals in 400 minutes. Opponents have only gotten 18 shots on goal in the five matches against the Tigers.
The Spiders own a 5-4-1 mark against the Monarchs, winning the previous four meetings in the series. Old Dominion was beaten 5-0 by No. 2 Virginia on Wednesday night and will not play again until the date with the Spiders on Sunday. The Monarchs are 1-4-2 on the year. They have been shutout three times in seven matches this season. Their lone win came last Sunday at Radford in a 1-0 shutout of the Highlanders. Senior Jessie Klamut leads the squad with three goals scored this year. Three different goalkeepers have been in net this year for the Monarchs, allowing less than two goals per contest combined.
Fans are advised to pay attention to parking signs on campus. With home football against New Hampshire scheduled for Saturday, many lots around the stadium must be vacated by times indicated on posted signs at each lot.
