CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -
The Richmond women's tennis team fell to host Virginia, 7-0, over the weekend.
"They're the toughest team on our schedule so to face them for the first match of the season was a challenge," said head coach Mark Wesselink. "We competed well. Our doubles played them tough. The bright spot was definitely the doubles and I think that's going to be a real strength this year."
The tandems of Helen Cunningham/Alexandra Symth put up a valiant effort but fell 8-4, and Elizabeth Sims and Kelly Tidwell battled but fell 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, the Cavaliers won all six matches in straight sets. Richmond returns to action next Sunday at 10 a.m. at Virginia Tech.
