Spiders Finish Eighth At A-10's

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Richmond men's tennis team finished eighth at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championships. Richmond won its first match against eleventh seed La Salle, but fell to third seed Charlotte to move into the consolation bracket, where the Spiders saw no. 10 Saint Louis then no. 8 Rhode Island.
Richmond faced off against tenth seed Saint Louis in its first match in the consolation bracket where the Bilikens won a 4-0 decision over the Spiders. Saint Louis won three-of-three matches in singles play and won two-of-three in doubles action.
Richmond duo, Drew Crank and Michael Sommer, took down SLU's no. 1 pair, Gordon/Acosta in an 8-4 decision.
The sixth seeded Spiders moved on to face eighth seed Rhode Island in a battle for seventh place. The Rams pulled out a 4-0 victory earning seventh place as Richmond finished in eighth.
Michael Sommer was a head of Rhode Island's Cote in the no. 2 position, 6-1, 4-3 but was unable to finish. William Minter was also leading in singles action before not being able to complete the match.
