Women's Tennis Tops UMass 5-2 For Fifth-Straight Win

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond earned its fifth-straight win of the season with 5-2 victory over the Massachusetts Minutewomen in Atlantic 10 women's tennis action Saturday morning in Richmond, Va.
"It was a very hard fought match," stated Mark Wesselink. "I have a lot of respect for UMass and what they brought to us today. We definitely had to bring everything and had to play our best tennis to get the win. And it was nice to get the A-10 win."
Pamela Duran and Ashlee Vosters overpowered the no. 2 doubles spot with an 8-3 win, notching their tenth-straight victory at second doubles; however, Massachusetts notched wins at the no. 1 and 3 spot to secure the doubles point.
In singles action, #68 Duran continued her winning ways at the no. 1 spot, battling for a win over Michele Spiess and her fourth-straight singles win. While Carter dropped at second singles, Grasu, Vosters, Schneider and Hubbard secured the victory for the Spiders earning wins at the no. 3, 4, 5 and 6 spots, respectively. Vosters and Hubbard's wins marked their fifth-straight wins in singles action.
"As far as individual performances go," said Wesselink, "Pamela and Ashlee are just on a streak; they played well in both singles and doubles."
"We are looking forward to taking a few days to heal up a few injuries and then getting back on track and getting into the home stretch for A-10's."
The Spiders (5-6, 2-1 in A-10) will return to the court on April 12 in Richmond, Va. with Longwood at 2:30 p.m.
