
Men's Tennis Overpowers James Madison, 6-1

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond men's tennis team came through with an exciting 6-1 victory over the James Madison Dukes on Wednesday afternoon in Richmond, Va. Richmond won two of the three doubles matches and, after dropping the No. 1 singles match, the Spiders swept the No. 2-6 singles spots to take a dominating victory over the Dukes.
In doubles action, Richmond's Bobby McNally and Matt Stillwagon paired up at the No. 1 spot for an 8-6 win over JMU's Tarr and Campbell, while Doug Banker and Brett Waikart earned a 9-7 win for the Spiders over Snead/Clay at No. 2. JMU's Allensworth and Rubenstein were able to pull out an 8-3 victory at No. 3 doubles over the Chris Louis and Michael Sommer duo.
In singles play, Banker fell to Tarr at the No. 1 position, and McNally, Sami Belakhlef, Louis, Sommer, and Waikart won at the No. 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 spots, respectively, to secure the Spiders' 6-1 victory on Wednesday afternoon.
Richmond head coach Steve Gerstenfeld was thrilled with his team's second straight victory. "This was Stillwagon's first match back from an injury and he and McNally looked very strong in the doubles," stated Gerstenfeld of their win at No. 1 doubles. "And, as a team, we looked very strong in the singles."
