
Women's Tennis Edged Virginia Tech, 4-3

BLACKSBURG, Va - The University of Richmond women's tennis team topped the Virginia Tech Hokies, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon on the Virginia Tech campus. The Spiders will return to action on Feb. 18 when they will host Maryland at 2:00 p.m.
Richmond opened the dual match by losing all three doubles contests, but came back to win four of the six singles to win the tight contest which came down to the final set.
In singles action, Richmond briefly tied the contest at No. 2 as 74th-ranked Pamela Duran defeated 88th-ranked Anat Elazari, 6-1, 6-4. Inga Beermann, ranked No. 100 nationally, cruised past Beatrice Grasu at No. 1, 6-1, 6-4, to give Tech a 2-1 advantage, but the Spiders again leveled the score as Robin Carter defeated Ashley James, 6-2, 6-4, in the No. 4 match.
Tech regained the lead in the see-saw affair at 3-2 when J.J. Larson defeated Ashlee Vosters, 7-5, 6-2, at No. 5. The match became tied for a third time as Xenia Schneider won 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 at No. 6 over the Hokies' Jessica Brouwer. The deciding point came down to the No. 3 match where Meghan Wolfgram won a thrilling 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 match over Tech's Jessica Long.
