UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond men's tennis team came through with an exciting 4-1 victory over the Hampton Pirates on Wed. evening. Although the Pirates clinched the doubles point, the Spider swept singles action and ended the night with a 4-1 advantage over the Pirates. The Spiders, now 3-6, will return to action on Sat. when they will travel to Lynchburg, Va. for a match with Liberty at 6:00 p.m.
Richmond head coach Steve Gerstenfeld was pleased with the performance of his tennis squad on Wed. night. "We are playing much better than we were a month ago," stated Gerstenfeld. "However, our doubles still need work. The guys are working hard in practice and, as we develop our match-base over the next six weeks, we should be very competitive in the conference tournament in April."
