
Women's Tennis Gets Past Air Force, 4-3

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond women's tennis team defeated the Air Force Academy, 4-3, in a home match played Saturday afternoon. The Spiders won four singles matches to earn their four points as the team was again led by junior Vanessa Bagnato (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset).
The Spiders began the day by dropping the doubles point to the Air Force Academy as they lost two of three. Sophomore Patty Devlin (York, Pa./York Suburban) and freshman Courtney Klein (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) recorded a victory at the No. 3 spot, 8-5.
In singles, Bagnato claimed her sixth straight win at the No. 2 spot as she defeated Laura Nigro in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5. It was the junior's eighth win in her last nine matches. Freshman Lindsay Cox (Finchampstead, Workingham Berks, UK/Edgbarrow) also earned a point for the Spiders, winning 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (3) at the No. 3 position as she is now 10-5 at that spot. Richmond also got victories at the No. 5 and 6 positions from Klein and Devlin, respectively.
Richmond (8-8) is back in action on Friday, April 5 as the Spiders host Marshall at 2:30 p.m. at the UR Tennis Complex.
