UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond women's tennis team shut-out the James Madison Dukes this afternoon, 7-0, in a match played at the UR Tennis Complex. The Spiders dropped only two sets on the afternoon as they cruised to the victory over their state foe.
At the top of the line-up, sophomore Jeannette Cluskey (Edina, Minn./Edina) posted a 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 victory over Margie Zesinger. The Spiders would also claim straight sets victories at the No.s 2-5 positions and sophomore Patty Devlin (York, Pa./York Suburban) won her match at the No. 6 position.
Junior Vanessa Bagnato (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) won at the No. 2 spot as she closed out the regular season winning seven of her past eight and freshman Courtney Klein (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) has won three straight matches, picking up a victory at the No. 5 position. Freshman Lindsay Cox (Finchampstead, Workingham Berks, UK/Edgbarrow) picked up her team-leading 12th win of the spring with a near-perfect 6-0, 6-1, performance at the No. 3 spot, while junior Casey Cohen (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./The Bolles School) rounded out the day's winners with a victory in No. 4 singles.
Richmond concluded its regular season with a 9-9 record and will next play in the Atlantic 10 Championships April 19-21 in College Park, Md. The Spiders, 2-0 in conference play, will find out their seeding next week.
