UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. --- The Virginia Tech women's tennis team posted a 5-2 win over Richmond on Saturday afternoon at the UR Tennis Complex. With the loss, the Spiders fall to 5-10 while the Hokies improve to 9-10 with the victory.
The visiting Hokies registered the doubles point and four of the six singles matches for the win. Richmond's two victories in singles came at the No. 3 and the No. 4 spots. Vanessa Bagnato (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) recorded a 4-6 , 2-0 (ret.) win over Ines Khelifi at the No. 3 singles position. Monica Peets (Tallinn, Estonia/Tallinn Science School) defeated Michele Martaus in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. Va. Tech's Kristen Stubbs recorded a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Richmond's Jeannette Cluskey (Minneapolis, Minn./Edna) at No. 1 singles. At two singles, Antonella Pozzi outlasted Jodi Kenoyer (Lighthouse Point, Fla/Cardinal Gibbons) 5-7, 6-4, 6-0.
