UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. --Richmond captured a 4-3 victory over intra-state rival Liberty this afternoon at the UR Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Richmond.
The Spiders rallied in the match, coming from two points down to post their ninth win of the season. The Flames captured the doubles point sweeping the three doubles matches. Liberty also registered a win at the No. 1 singles position as Ricardo Shinozaki defeated senior Robert Flader (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) 6-4, 6-4. Trailing 2-0, Richmond would respond winning four of the next five singles matches. Niki Doll (Heidelberg, Germany/Heidelberg Gymnasium) bested Bruno Coelho (6-0, 7-5) at number two singles while at the No. 4 spot Todd Parker (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) recorded a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Luke Burden. Richmond would tie the match at 3-all when Mark Scordo (Essex Falls, N.J./West Essex) delivered a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles. Danny Scrafford (Centreville, Va./Centreville) dominated at six singles 6-1, 6-0 to seal the victory for the Spiders.
Richmond (9-6) resumes action on Friday, March 30 hosting CAA rival East Carolina University at 2:30 p.m.
