Lauren Wicklund joined Richmond in July 2018 as Associate Athletics Director for Leadership Development and was elevated to Senior Associate AD for Leadership and Student-Athlete Development in the fall of 2020. Wicklund oversees Spider Performance (SP4), an umbrella organization that houses the programs, resources, and support needed for Spider student-athletes to succeed academically, athletically, personally, and professionally and aims to build champions for life. In addition, Wicklund teaches leadership courses on the topics of personal leadership development and high-performance teams.
When Wicklund joined Richmond in 2018, she brought more than a dozen years of experience working with student-athletes at the Division I level in a leadership role. From 2016 to 2018, Wicklund served as the Associate Director of Athletics for Leadership Development at Bucknell University. Her primary responsibilities with the Bison were to coordinate and implement programming for the Bucknell Bison Leadership Institute, a comprehensive leadership development program for student-athletes. In addition, she was also a lecturer in the Bucknell University School of Management, teaching Leadership Development and Personal Theory.
Before Bucknell, Wicklund spent three years as the Assistant Athletics Director at Rice University in Houston. She co-chaired the Student-Athlete Well Being Committee and provided career, personal, and leadership development services for all student-athletes. She also developed campus and city-wide community service events and programs.
Wicklund spent four years at Miami University in Ohio, holding a variety of positions, including Director of Student-Athletes Academic Services & Football Administration, Director of Football Operations, Director of CHAMPS/Life Skills and Compliance Coordinator. She created educational training tools and modules to provide NCAA rules education to student-athletes, coaches and staff, and also served as the sport administrator for women’s tennis.
Wicklund began her career in higher education at the University of Pittsburgh, where she served as the Coordinator for the Office of Cross Cultural and Leadership Development from 2006 to 2008. She developed leadership, risk management, recruitment and diversity education and training for campus student organizations. She also created and managed a fundraising campaign that raised $500,000 for the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute.
Wicklund earned her Bachelor's degree in Communications and her Master's of Education in Higher Education Administration from the University of Pittsburgh. She and her husband Eli have two daughters, Sydney and Samantha, and a son, Dominic.
