08/18/2025 | Men's Lacrosse
Richmond, Va. — University of Richmond men's lacrosse head coach Dan Chemotti announced the hiring of Conor Whipple to his staff Monday. Whipple brings a high-level playing pedigree and a proven track record as a coach, having most recently made back-to-back NCAA Division III Final Four appearances—including a trip to the 2024 National Championship—as part of the RIT coaching staff. He will work with Richmond's offensive units.
"Adding Conor Whipple to our staff is a homerun," said Head Coach Dan Chemotti. "Conor is a proven recruiter, teacher of the game, and overall winner. From the moment he indicated interest, it was clear that he was excited about becoming a part of the program; and when we spent time with him on campus, it was even clearer that he has the experience and smarts to elevate Richmond Lacrosse on and off the field. He comes from a great pedigree of coaches—as his father and cousins are coaches in the profession—he is an accomplished player, and has high-level coaching experience, coaching in the last two Division III Final Fours, including the 2024 National Championship. We expect Conor to make an impact both on the offensive end and recruiting efforts immediately."
Before joining RIT, Whipple spent five seasons on the coaching staff at Bucknell University, serving as the face-off coordinator and later as the offensive and recruiting coordinator. Under his guidance, Bucknell developed a top-20 extra-man offense, set a program record for goals in a game against Loyola, and saw multiple offensive players earn All-Conference honors. He also coached Nick Crovatto to a program-record 175 face-off wins. The Bison made Patriot League Tournament appearances in both 2019 and 2022 during his tenure.
As a player, Whipple had a standout career at the University of Tampa, where he was a four-time USILA All-American. He graduated as the program's all-time leader in points (354) and assists (185), while also ranking second in goals (169), games played (75), and games started (72). In 2017, he notched 99 points—including a school-record 60 assists—tying the highest single-season point total in program history.
Whipple was a three-time Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year and led the Spartans to four straight conference tournament titles. Tampa appeared in the NCAA Division II Tournament all four years of his career, advancing to the semifinals in 2014, 2016, and 2017. He was also a USILA Scholar All-American and a three-year captain. He was drafted by the Florida Launch in the 2017 Major League Lacrosse Draft.
He earned a bachelor's degree in sports management in 2017 and later completed a master's in entrepreneurship from Tampa in 2018.
Coaching is in Whipple's DNA. His father, Rory Whipple, is the all-time winningest coach in NCAA Division II men's lacrosse history and coached Conor during his college career. The Whipple family's coaching lineage extends further, with multiple relatives involved in collegiate lacrosse coaching.
