Mike Cummings
- Title:
- Co-Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line
Mike Cummings joined Russ Huesman's staff in January 2025 as Co-Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach. Cummings most recently served as offensive line coach at App State for the 2023 and 2024 seasons.Â
In his first season in Boone in 2023, Cummings helped lead the Mountaineers to a nine-win season and a Sun Belt East Division title. In his debut season, he coached a line featuring five transfer starters, guiding the group to rank second in the Sun Belt for fewest sacks allowed (1.50 per game) and contributing to an offense that averaged 273.6 passing yards and 172.0 rushing yards per game. Bucky Williams, Isaiah Helms, and Jack Murphy earned All-Sun Belt honors under his guidance.
In 2024, Cummings’ line protected Joey Aguilar, the Sun Belt’s leader in passing yards, and allowed just 15 sacks while helping Ahmani Marshall record five straight 100-yard games to end the season.
Cummings brings over three decades of coaching experience to Richmond, including a stint at Cincinnati, where he helped the Bearcats earn a bowl berth in 2022. He also spent time serving as offensive coordinator at Central Michigan and Connecticut.
At Central Michigan, Cummings developed NFL talent, including Eric Fisher, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, and helped lead the Chippewas to a 9-4 record in 2021. He helped produce top NFL prospects in Bernhard Raimann and Luke Goedeke, both drafted in the top three rounds.
Cummings spent 16 years at Central Michigan across five stints, overseeing top-25 passing offenses and developing five All-MAC offensive linemen. His 2019 offensive line helped two running backs rush for 1,000 yards, contributing to Central Michigan leading the MAC in total offense (6,070 yards).
Cummings has also coached at VMI, Marshall, Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, and Michigan State under Nick Saban. He holds a Bachelor’s in Physical Education from Buffalo (1984) and a Master’s in Athletic Administration from Central Michigan (1990).
Cummings and his wife, Donna, have two daughters, Elizabeth and Emily.
