Jameson Zacharias came to Richmond as cornerbacks coach in February 2023 after spending the 2022 season at Georgetown, where he served as the secondary coach.
In 2024, Zacharias helped Spiders Chance Graves and CJ Fraser step into elevated roles, with the pair combining for 63 tackles and eight pass breakups. Fellow cornerback Trae Tomlinson recorded a team-leading seven pass breakups, while Graves was the third-leading tackler in the Richmond secondary, leading the cornerbacks. Zacharias also helped Fraser, a redshirt freshman, earn CAA Rookie of the Week honors following the Elon game (Sept. 28), in which he recorded a career-high nine tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss, a forced fumble, and an interception in Richmond's win. With Zacharias' guidance, the 2024 Spiders went 10-3, reached the FCS Playoffs for a third consecutive year, and won back-to-back conference championships for just the second time in program history. The team finished the regular season with 10 wins, their best regular-season record since 2009. Zacharias helped Richmond complete an undefeated 8-0 conference season, the second such accomplishment in program history, as the 2024 team became just the seventh in CAA history to finish conference play unbeaten. The Spiders finished the season ranked third in the CAA in total defense, holding teams to 328.2 yards per game, and were tied for first in touchdowns allowed, giving up just 28 all year.
In 2023, Zacharias’ first season on staff, the success of his young corners, D’Angelo Stocker and Trae Tomlinson, was a highlight. The pair combined for 98 tackles and four interceptions.
Before his time at Georgetown, Zacharias spent four seasons at Fordham and had previous coaching stints at IUP, Central Michigan, and CAA member Towson.
At Fordham, Zacharias guided eight players to All-Patriot League selections, including 2021 Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, Ryan Greenhagen.
At Indiana University of Pennsylvania (2017-18), Zacharias coached cornerback JR Stevens, who earned All-PSAC Second Team and First Team All-Region honors.
Before his two years at IUP, Zacharias coached outside linebackers and cornerbacks for two seasons at Central Michigan, helping the team rank sixth in the Mid-American Conference in pass defense in 2016, allowing just under 223 yards per game through the air. Junior cornerback Amari Coleman tied for the MAC lead with four interceptions, returning two for touchdowns to earn All-MAC First Team honors.
A 2013 graduate of Monmouth University, Zacharias earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice after playing four seasons for the Hawks.
