Spiders Tee Off Season at Nittany Lion Invitational

Bransford 3-under in collegiate debut
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Freshman Carter Bransford fired a 3-under-par 69 in the second round of her collegiate debut Monday, climbing into a tie for eighth place through 36 holes of the Nittany Lion Invitational.
Bransford followed an opening-round 72 with five birdies in Round 2, including four on the front nine, to finish the day at 3-under par (141). Her 69 in the second round tied for the eighth-lowest 18-hole score in program history and was the lowest by any Spider since current senior Maya Beasley shot a 3-under 67 at the Evie Odom Invitational in October 2024.
Richmond shot rounds of 6-over 294 and 7-over 295 and sits 12th in the 18-team field at 13-over par (589). Maryland leads at 13-under, one shot ahead of Virginia Tech.
Beasley, the reigning Atlantic 10 individual champion, recorded matching rounds of 1-over 73 Monday and is tied for 39th at 2-over par (146).
Junior Katie Magner and freshman Stella Moritz are tied for 55th at 7-over par (151). Magner shot rounds of 74 and 77, while Moritz opened her collegiate career with rounds of 75 and 76.
Sophomore Addie Doroh is tied for 70th at 12-over par (156) following consecutive rounds of 78.
While the Nittany Lion Invitational was being played on Penn State's Blue Course Monday, the White Course hosted the first round of the 36-hole Happy Valley Individual, which features Spiders Caroline Thompson and Heather Appelson among the 45 competitors.
Thompson shot a 1-over 73 in the opening round and is tied for 10th, while Appelson carded a 7-over 79 and is tied for 28th.
Both the Nittany Lion Invitational and Happy Valley Individual will begin their final rounds at 9 AM Tuesday with a shotgun start.
