Spiders Come From Behind to Down Bonnies, Stay Unbeaten

RICHMOND, Va. — Paige West's first career goal with less than two minutes remaining completed Richmond's rally from an early deficit to defeat St. Bonaventure 2-1 Sunday at President's Field at River Road and keep the Spiders unbeaten this season.
Richmond improved to 6-0-5 overall and 1-0-2 in Atlantic 10 play while remaining unbeaten through 11 games for the first time in program history. Dating back to last season, UR is 7-0-7 over its record-long 14-game unbeaten streak.
The Spiders generated a pair of chances in the opening three minutes, with a Morgane Zinn shot finding the post before West forced St. Bonaventure keeper Juliana Castellano to make a stop just seconds later. The Bonnies went ahead in the 10th minute when Audrey Cadman got on the end of a long ball from Ava Reybitz and slid it past UR keeper Veronica Rrapi, giving Richmond its first deficit since briefly trailing American on Aug. 20.
Rrapi kept the deficit at one throughout the remainder of the half, making four saves. She denied Cadman twice following the goal and stopped Liana Tata in the 26th minute as the teams went to halftime with St. Bonaventure ahead 1-0.
Richmond took control after halftime, outshooting St. Bonaventure 12-1 over the final 45 minutes. Kingsley Hughes forced a save less than three minutes into the half and narrowly missed another chance in the 60th before Zinn finally broke through at the 60:44 mark, collecting a misplayed clearance attempt and firing it past the keeper from 12 yards away. It was Zinn's team-leading fifth goal of the season and gave her 14 points through 11 matches, also a team best.
The pressure from the Spiders continued after the equalizer. Hughes and Camden Henard forced saves less than a minute apart, while Zinn put another attempt on goal in the 66th minute. Richmond generated five corner kicks and held St. Bonaventure without another shot after Ava Reybitz forced Isabel Seifert's only save of the half in the 53rd minute.
With the match still tied in the closing minutes, Christina Stamoulacatos found Emma Newman near the left sideline. She drove hard to the endline before sending a left-footed cross back across the box, where West beat the keeper with the inside of her right foot. The goal was the first of West's Richmond career, coming in her 29th career game.
Richmond finished with a 17-6 advantage in shots, including a 10-6 edge in shots on goal, and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks. Hughes led all players with five shots, while Zinn recorded four, including three on goal.
Rrapi finished with four saves in the opening half before Seifert took over after halftime and stopped the only shot she faced. Seifert earned the win to improve to 3-0-3 this season.
The Spiders improved to 3-0-1 vs St. Bonaventure under Adam Denton and registered their first come-from-behind win since Oct. 1, 2023, also a 2-1 victory over the Bonnies.
Richmond will return to action Saturday at George Mason, with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m.
