Beasley, Moritz Register Top-20 Finishes in Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Senior Maya Beasley shot a second straight 1-under-par 71 Tuesday to lead Richmond to a seventh-place finish at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational at the University Club of Kentucky.
The Spiders combined for an 8-over 296 in the final round and completed the 54-hole event at 18-over par (882). Richmond entered Tuesday tied for eighth before moving up one spot and finishing three shots ahead of East Carolina. Kentucky won the 13-team tournament at 25-under, 11 shots ahead of Penn State.
"I think one of the main things that we are going to take away from this is all the birdies that we made," said Spiders coach Calle Barlow of her team, which made 38 birdies during the event, seven more than in the season-opening Nittany Lion Invitational. "We saw a lot of red numbers — we also saw some doubles that we will work on — but we got to see a lot of birdies go in."
Beasley tied for 16th at even par (216) following rounds of 74, 71 and 71, earning the 18th top-20 finish of her career. Her 12 birdies were tied for fourth most in the 75-player field.
"Maya stepped up after having a really rough start yesterday," said Barlow. "Having her fight back was really encouraging to watch."
Freshman Stella Moritz recorded her first top-20 finish, tying for 19th at 1-over par (217). Moritz followed rounds of 74 and a career-low 70 with a final-round 73. She played the par 4s in 2-under par for the tournament, tied for sixth best in the field.
Freshman Carter Bransford tied for 40th at 9-over par (225) following rounds of 74, 73 and 78.
Sophomore Addie Doroh carded a final-round 77 and tied for 44th at 11-over par (227).
Junior Katie Magner improved in each round, following scores of 81 and 76 with a final-round 75 to tie for 58th at 16-over par (232).
Richmond will return to action Oct. 19-20 when it hosts the Spider Invitational at their home course: Independence Golf Club in Midlothian, Va.
