Moritz Leads Spiders at Bettie Lou Evans Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Freshman Stella Moritz fired a season-low 2-under-par 70 in the second round of the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational Monday, leading Richmond to a 1-over 289, one of the 10 lowest rounds in program history, at the University Club of Kentucky's Big Blue Course.
Moritz improved four shots from her opening-round 74 Monday afternoon, recording her second under-par round in six collegiate rounds. She is tied for 20th in the 75-player field at even par (144).
"My putter was working really well and made a lot of great putts. I also was just really steady and made a lot fewer mistakes," Moritz said.
Richmond followed an opening-round 9-over 297 with its 1-over 289, matching its lowest round of the season and tying for the seventh-lowest 18-hole team score in program history. The Spiders are tied with East Carolina for eighth in the 13-team field at 10-over par (586), two shots behind seventh-place South Alabama.
Kentucky leads the event at 17-under par, nine shots ahead of Penn State.
Senior Maya Beasley followed an opening-round 74 with a 1-under 71 and is tied for 23rd at 1-over par (145).
Freshman Carter Bransford carded rounds of 74 and 73 and is tied for 32nd at 3-over par (147).
Sophomore Addie Doroh recorded consecutive rounds of 75 and is tied for 45th at 6-over par (150), while junior Katie Magner improved five shots between rounds with an 81 and a 76. She is tied for 65th at 13-over par (157).
The Bettie Lou Evans Invitational will conclude Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
