Spider Field Hockey Drops Tough 1-0 Battle Against No. 6 Duke

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond field hockey team made a late push offensively against the No. 6 Duke University Blue Devils, Sunday afternoon at Crenshaw Field, but came up just short and falling 1-0.

Richmond, now 1-1 on the season, heads on the road. First, UR will take on American in Washington, DC, Friday at 3 PM. Sunday, Richmond will head to Farmville to face Longwood at 1 PM.

Duke got on the board in the second minute of action, cleaning up a penalty corner with a tip-in off the Blue Devils first corner of the game.

The Spiders had a tough time getting the ball back through the middle of the field until late in the fourth quarter. Richmond got two penalty corners with less than a minute left in the game, but both shots were blocked.

Spiders goalkeeper Amanda Cimillo made six saves, including three in the third quarter.

Duke held the upper hand in shots, 13-7, and penalty corners 5-3.
