Spiders to Face Liberty, Western Kentucky at Greenbrier Tip-Off
08/20/2026 | Men's Basketball
The Spiders will take on Western Kentucky on Friday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. before facing Liberty on Sunday, Nov. 22 at 4:30 p.m. Both games will be played inside Colonial Hall at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.
Richmond is one of six teams in the River Division of The Greenbrier Tip-Off, joining Atlantic 10 rivals George Washington and Rhode Island along with Liberty, Western Kentucky, and UAB. Each team will play twice during the weekend.
Richmond's matchup with Western Kentucky will be the first between the programs and will reunite Spiders assistant coach David Boyden with his alma mater. Boyden, a two-time team captain for the Hilltoppers, helped Western Kentucky win three straight Sun Belt regular-season and tournament championships from 2001-03.
The Spiders are 3-1 all-time against Liberty and have won the last two meetings in the series. That includes a season-opening 84-42 win in the Robins Center on Nov. 9, 2012, UR's most recent matchup with the Flames.
Travel packages for The Greenbrier Tip-Off are on sale now and include tickets to Richmond's games in the official fan section, accommodations, exclusive access to resort activities and more.
Individual tickets will go on sale Sept. 30, with a one-day presale scheduled for Sept. 29. Fans interested in securing presale access can register through the Greenbrier Tip-Off ticket page.
The 2026-27 Spiders feature 10 newcomers, the most in head coach Chris Mooney's 22 seasons with UR. The transfer class is led by sophomore center Amon Dörries, who earned All-Patriot League honors at Bucknell last season, and senior guard/forward Jamie Kaiser Jr., one of Butler's top players last year. The incoming freshman class features reigning Gatorade Kansas Player of the Year Sam Simmons Jr., while his backcourt mate Aiden Argabright, an All-Rookie Team selection in the A10 last year, leads the group of six returners.
