07/28/2026 | Football
Richmond, Va. – The University of Richmond football team reports to campus Thursday before preseason training camp begins Friday morning at Robins Stadium. All practices will take place at Robins Stadium. Players will alternate between wearing helmets, helmets and shoulder pads (shells), and full pads throughout the 19-day camp. The team will practice for five consecutive days before taking a day off and will repeat the schedule through Saturday, Aug. 22. All camp dates are open to the public and are subject to change with limited notice.
The 2026 roster features 90 student-athletes representing 17 states, Washington, D.C., Canada, and Australia. The squad includes 21 freshmen, 21 sophomores, 19 juniors, 25 seniors, and four graduate students.
Last season, Richmond finished 7-5 overall and 3-4 in its inaugural Patriot League campaign. Despite navigating numerous lineup and starter changes throughout the season, the Spiders placed 11 players on the program's first-ever Patriot League All-League team. Richmond also defeated William & Mary, now a fellow Patriot League member, in the Capital Cup after rallying from a 14-0 halftime deficit to extend its all-time lead in the rivalry to 67-64-4. The Spiders ranked first in the Patriot League and fourth nationally in passing defense (155.3 yards per game), while also finishing second in the conference and sixth nationally in total defense (290.3 yards per game). Quarterback Kyle Wickersham led the Patriot League in completion percentage (64.6 percent), while the offensive line ranked 14th nationally among FCS programs by allowing just 14 sacks (1.17 per game).
The second-winningest coach in University of Richmond football history, Russ Huesman enters his 10th season leading the Spiders in 2026 and his 18th season overall as a collegiate head coach. He enters the season with a 118-78 (.602) career record between Chattanooga (2009-16) and Richmond (since 2017), including a 59-41 (.590) mark with the Spiders. Huesman returns the entirety of his full-time coaching staff from the 2025 season heading into 2026.
Tickets for all six home games at Robins Stadium are available by calling 1-877-SPIDER-1, visiting the Robins Center Ticket Office, or online at the link here.
