RICHMOND, Va. — The University of Richmond women's basketball team has signed Hanna Tjernberg, a 6-foot-3 forward from Lulea, Sweden, Head Coach Alisa Kresge announced Friday. Tjernberg will join the Spiders for the 2026-27 season and becomes the program's second international addition of the incoming signing class.
Tjernberg arrives in Richmond with international experience and a versatile skill set in the frontcourt. Shas spent three years competing with the Swedish National Team program and has also gained experience in Sweden's professional league, where she averaged 4.8 points and 3.6 rebounds in 21 minutes per game.
"At 6-foot-3, Hanna brings size and versatility to our frontcourt," Kresge said. "She is a two-way player. Offensively, she can score around the basket and stretch the floor and has a very good feel defensively. Hanna's international experience will add to our program, and we are excited to get her on campus."
Tjernberg has played with the Swedish U16 team at the European Championship Division B level and was also part of the U18 team at the Baltic Cup. She also helped lead her U19 team to a Scania Championship in 2025. In addition, she attended RIG Lulea Elite Academy and also played for Exodus Europe.
