Lydic Leads Spiders on Day 1 of NCAA Regionals

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Senior Hannah Lydic paced Richmond with a 3-over 73 in the first round of the NCAA Regional at Finley Golf Club Monday. Lydic, who walked in graduation ceremonies with teammate and fellow senior Olivia Wilkie at Richmond the day before, played her final seven holes in 1-under par to finish the day tied for 31st on the individual leaderboard. As a team, Richmond is 27-over par (307), 11th in the 12-team field.
"They completely redid the golf course, and the greens are quite undulating which made putting tricky if you weren't in position," said Lydic, who wasn't able to participate in Sunday's practice round due to UR's Commencement ceremonies. "The underclassmen were able to help [Olivia] and me out with lines off the tee and the like so we were ready to attack the course today. That was a big help for me."
Last year at the NCAA Regional in Charlottesville, Va., Lydic tied for 30th, the best finish ever for a Richmond golfer in an NCAA Regional. She also led UR in the 2023 NCAA Regional in Raleigh, N.C., placing 51st.
" I really love postseason play," said Lydic. "We're fighting to keep playing against other world class golfers. What a great experience NCAA Regionals is for us!"
Freshman Addie Doroh is one shot back of Lydic in a tie for 38th place at 4-over par (74). Sophomore Katie Magner is tied for 56th at 8-over par (78), while junior Maya Beasley is in 62nd place (12-over 82) and senior Olivia Wilkie is in 63rd place (16-over 86).
Richmond, the 11-seed in the event, is one shot in front of 12-seed Howard (+28) and seven behind 10th-place High Point (+20).
Richmond's Round 2 will begin at 8:55 AM Tuesday, with the Spiders starting on the 10th tee.
