04/21/2026 | Baseball
Richmond, moving to 23-18 on the season, returns to Atlantic 10 Conference action, hosting VCU this weekend. The first pitch of game one is set 1 p.m. Friday at Pitt Field for Alumni Weekend.
William & Mary got on the board in the second inning, posting two runs on two hits and a hit batter on UR starter Khristopher Morris. Morris went two and a third of an inning on the hill also picking up two strikeouts. Aaron Van Tuyle hit one batter but got the two outs to finish the third.
Noah Harvey scored on a wild pitch after leading off the bottom of the second with a double down the left field line. He moved up on a ground out and was ready when the Tribe catcher couldn't handle a wild pitch.
After Glenn Smith tossed a scoreless fourth, allowing one hit and a walk with a strikeout, Richmond took a 5-2 lead with a four-run frame on three hits and two hit batters. Michael Elko collected one of his four hits on the day to center field, scoring Jackson Kraemer and PJ Hughes. Elko and RJ Rickabaugh, who reached on one of his two hit by pitches, scored on Dylan Winebrenner's double to right before he got caught in a run down.
The Tribe got two runs in the fifth and a run in the sixth to tie the game at five all. In the seventh, William & Mary posted a five-run frame to push their lead out to 10-5. The Tribe connected four extra base hits, including two two-run home runs, in the frame off two-way players Noah Haught and Evan Wilson.
The Spiders answered in the bottom of the seventh with a second four-run inning. After Elko doubled, Winebrenner hit his 13th home run of the season down the left field line. RJ Johnson Jr. scored on the first of Sean Scanlon's two doubles. After pinch hitter Chris Schaller was hit, Scanlon scored on Reid Downs pinch hit single to right to make it 10-9.
The Tribe scored a run in the top of the eighth on back-to-back hits and a Spider miscue to take a brief two run lead, 11-9.
Grant Kennedy led off the bottom of the eighth with a hit by pitch and advanced to third on Elko's base hit to right field. Winebrenner was hit by a pitch to load bases without an out. The Spiders tallied single runs on a ground out and a sacrifice fly to tie the game. Winebrenner scored from second the game-winning run on Scanlon's second double of the game.
Chayse Gruber took over on the mound in the ninth. With one out, he allowed a base hit to the left side. Rickabaugh threw out the runner at second for the second out of the inning before Gruber struck out the batter at the plate the very next pitch. Gruber collected his second save on the season.
Wilson, after being named Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday for his offensive power against James Madison and Dayton last week, collected his first collegiate win on the mound. Wilson scattered two runs, one earned, on three hits, over one and two thirds of an inning of work.
