RICHMOND, Va. — The Atlantic 10 announced its Golfer of the Week and Rookie of the Week winners for the first half of the spring semester Thursday, with sophomore Carson Baez and freshman Lucas Rizo-Patron each collecting three awards.
Baez was named the A-10 Golfer of the Week and Rizo-Patron was named Rookie of the Week for the weeks ending February 13, February 20, and March 13. No other A-10 golfer received multiple awards.
Baez and Rizo-Patron earned their first awards of the semester for their performances in the Lake Jovita Invitational in mid-February. Baez finished as the individual runner-up and Rizo-Patron tied for 33rd as Richmond placed fifth in the 14-team event.
The following week, Baez and Rizo-Patron helped Richmond smash the program record for lowest team tournament score, helping the Spiders win the Loyola Intercollegiate at 34-under par (830). Baez shot 17-under par, also a program record, en route to the first individual win of his collegiate career. Rizo-Patron finished at 1-under par, tied for 38th in the field.
Baez and Rizo-Patron earned their third weekly awards of the semester at the Donald Ross Collegiate Classic in mid-March, won by the Spiders. Baez (-6) tied for first and finished runner-up on the first playoff hole. Rizo-Patron (-3) tied for ninth, the first top-10 finish of his career.
These are the first A-10 Player of the Week honors of Baez's career. He was a five-time A-10 Rookie of the Week as a freshman last season.
Rizo-Patron is now a four-time A-10 Rookie of the Week. His first honor came after an 11th-place finish at the Bash in the Boro in October.
The Spiders have two scheduled events left this season: next week's Giles-Spratley Collegiate at their home course, Independence Golf Club in Midlothian, Va., and the 2026 Atlantic 10 Championship in Orlando, Fla. from April 27-29.
