Richmond Topples Saint Joseph’s 16-6, Wins Fifth Straight

RICHMOND, Va. – Richmond women's lacrosse defeated Saint Joseph's 16-6 at Robins Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Ten Spiders scored a goal, and 22 players collected a statistic. In the dominant win, the Spiders handed the Hawks their first conference loss of the season.
With the win, the Spiders improve to 7-2 overall and 4-0 in Atlantic 10 play. Saint Joseph's falls to 4-6 overall and 3-1 in league action.
Bridget Lonsinger led the team with a career-high six points on four goals and two assists. Alexis Morton followed with five points on one goal and four assists. Meghan Rode tallied three points on one goal and two assists, and Anya Wardle earned a career-high, scoring two goals and tallying one assist. Charlotte Edwards and Stella Axe scored two goals each. Keating Hopkins scored a goal and tallied an assist. Julian Stanley, Emma Kroneberger and Rileigh Meyer each scored a goal.
On the draw, Axe and Grace Hallahan each collected a career high in the draw circle. Axe collected five, and Hallahan collected four draw controls.
Chloe Conti led the defense with a career-high three caused turnovers and three ground balls. Lonsinger also contributed three ground balls.
In goal, Abby Francioli earned the win, collecting nine saves with a .643 save percentage in 45 minutes of play. Maggie Mullen tallied two saves in 7:25 of play, and Ally Goveia saw 7:35 of action.
Richmond led in multiple statistical categories. The Spiders edged the Hawks 28-22 in shots and 16-11 in shots on goal. Richmond led 11-4 in saves and went 19-for-22 in clears. The Spiders out-hustled Saint Joseph's in ground balls, leading 20-13, and edged the Hawks 13-10 in draw controls.
The Hawks scored first at the 11:32 mark, but the Spiders responded with four straight goals to take a 4-1 lead. At the end of the first quarter, the Hawks scored to cut the deficit to 4-2. Richmond dominated the second quarter, outscoring Saint Joseph's 7-1 to take an 11-3 lead at halftime.
At the start of the second half, Lonsinger scored three consecutive goals to extend the lead to 14-3. The Hawks added two goals but trailed 14-5 at the end of the third quarter. In the final frame, Saint Joseph's scored once, but with two more goals by Richmond, the Spiders sealed the 16-6 win.
