RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond women's basketball forward Maggie Doogan has been named Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week after leading the Spiders to a 2-0 finish to the regular season and helping Richmond clinch the No. 3 seed in the Atlantic 10 Championship.
Doogan averaged 24.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game while shooting 56.5 percent from the field and 100 percent from the free throw line across the two victories over Rhode Island and Saint Joseph's. She totaled 48 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists while going a perfect 17-for-17 at the stripe.
The senior opened the week with 13 points, eight rebounds and six assists in a Quad 2 win over Rhode Island, posting a plus-38 rating in under 30 minutes as Richmond handed the Rams just their second conference loss of the season. The victory secured the Spiders' third consecutive undefeated Atlantic 10 home slate.
Doogan followed with 35 points at Saint Joseph's on 9-of-16 shooting, including three three-pointers, and tied for the fourth-most free throws made in a single game in program history after going 14-for-14 at the line. The performance marked her fourth 30-point game of the season and locked up Richmond's position as the No. 3 seed entering the conference tournament.
The honor marks Doogan's eighth Atlantic 10 Player of the Week selection this season and the 14th weekly conference recognition of her career.
Richmond opens Atlantic 10 Championship play in the quarterfinal round on Friday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the Henrico Sports & Events Center. No. 6 La Salle will face the winner of No. 11 Saint Louis and No. 14 Fordham (slated for Wednesday) on Thursday, March 5, with the winner advancing to meet the Spiders on Friday night.
