RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond women's tennis player Lucy Webber has been named Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday. The honor marks the first weekly award of the season for the Spiders and the first of Webber's career.
Webber posted a strong week for Richmond, going 2-0 in singles and 1-1 in doubles while competing at the No. 4 singles position and No. 2 doubles spot. She helped the Spiders earn a 6-1 victory over Campbell with a straight-set singles win over Ilouna Aneca, 6-3, 6-2, on court four.
The junior followed with a comeback victory at Cal State Fullerton, rallying after dropping the opening set to defeat Seha Yu in three sets, 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5). The win secured Richmond's lone singles point in the match.
Webber also contributed in doubles play, partnering with Lainey O'Neil for a 6-1 victory against Yu and Martina Markov at the No. 2 position. Her performances helped Richmond claim five singles matches in the win over Campbell and secure the doubles point against the Titans.
Richmond continues its West Coast road swing Tuesday, March 10, taking on UC Irvine at 3 p.m. ET before closing the trip Friday, March 13 at CSUN in Northridge, Calif. at 2 p.m. ET.
