HILTON HEAD, S.C. — Freshman Addie Doroh and junior Maya Beasley both registered top-10 finishes as Richmond placed third among 15 teams at Wofford's Low Country Intercollegiate Tuesday. The event marked Richmond's third straight tournament top-five finish and its best result since winning the season-opening Tribe Invitational in September. The Spiders totaled a score of 922 (+58), behind only runner-up Appalachian State (+55) and champion UNC Asheville (+37) in the field of 15.
Beasley led Richmond with a 2-over 74 Tuesday, recording two birdies, four bogeys, and 12 pars at the Golf Club at Indigo Run. She finished the event at 10-over par (226), tied for ninth among 79 golfers.
"The greens were brand new so it was difficult to figure out how far to fly the ball. We learned that we had to hit to the front of the green which could be really tricky to manage at times. But overall, we learned a lot and hopefully we can do better in the next event," said Beasley following the round.
It was Beasley's third top-20 finish in three events this spring and her best result since she won the Tribe Invitational in September. Teammate Addie Doroh also finished at 10-over par (226) to pick up her second top-10 result of the season, the other coming at September's Tribe Invitational.
Sophomore Katie Magner tied for 27th at 19-over par (235), while Richmond's two seniors tied for 36th (Olivia Wilkie at 23-over) and 41st (Hannah Lydic at 25-over), respectively.
Richmond's 164 pars were the second most of any team in the field.
A pair of Spiders competed as individuals, with sophomore Caroline Thompson placing 49th at 27-over par and junior Heather Appelson tying for 51st at 29-over par.
Up next for the Spiders is the City of Oaks Collegiate at Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, N.C. from March 22-24.
