Women’s Lacrosse Cruises Past Liberty 16-6; Morton, Francioli Reach Career Milestones

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Richmond's women's lacrosse team earned its third straight road win with a dominate 16-6 victory over Liberty at Liberty Lacrosse Field on Saturday afternoon. Alexis Morton and Abby Francioli reached career milestones in the win.
Morton recorded her 100th career goal, while teammate Francioli reached 300 career saves.
Juliana Stanley recorded a career high, and Morton led the team with five points on two goals and three assists. Charlotte Edwards netted a career-high four goals, and Bridgette Lonsinger earned her first career hat trick. Keating Hopkins also had a career-high game with two goals and one assist, while Meghan Rode (one goal, two assists) collected three points. Rileigh Meyer and Stella Axe each scored one goal.
Rode paced the team with nine draw controls, while Grace Hallahan and Hopkins collected three apiece. Four other Spiders contributed to the team's 21-2 edge over the Flames in draw controls.
Hallahan also led the defense with two caused turnovers and two ground balls. Quinn Meyer and Keating Hopkins led the Spiders with three ground balls.
In goal, Francioli tallied five saves. Maggie Mullen collected one save, and Ally Gouveia made her collegiate debut and recorded one save.
The Spiders opened the game with four straight goals before Liberty scored its first at the 11:38 mark of the second quarter to make it 4-1. In response, Richmond scored six more goals to take a 10-2 lead at halftime. Liberty opened the second half with three straight goals to cut the deficit to 10-5, but the Spiders answered with six more to secure the 16-6 win.
The Spiders face VCU at Cary Street Field on Saturday, March 7, at noon.
