Scott’s Career High Sparks Senior Day Win Over La Salle

RICHMOND, Va. – Aneisha Scott erupted for a career-high 20 points and Maggie Doogan added 16 as the University of Richmond women's basketball team rolled past La Salle 92-58 Sunday afternoon inside the Robins Center on Senior Day. With the win, Richmond snapped a two-game skid and improved to 23-6 overall and 13-3 in Atlantic 10 Conference play, while the Explorers fell to 15-12 overall and 8-8 in league action.

How It Happened
Rachel Ullstrom opened the scoring with a layup before La Salle answered on the other end. The Explorers used a 4-0 spurt to take the early lead, but Maggie Doogan converted back-to-back layups to tie the game at six. A 5-0 La Salle run pushed the visitors ahead by five before Alicia Newell knocked down a three-pointer to trim the deficit to two, 11-9. After another Explorer bucket, Ava Persichetti drained a triple to make it 13-12 at the 4:44 mark. La Salle responded with a 5-0 stretch to build an 18-12 edge, but Ally Sweeney ended the run with a jumper. La Salle added a three pointer before Rayne Wright went 2-of-2 at the free throw line late as Richmond trailed 21-16 after one quarter.

La Salle opened the second with a jumper, but the Spiders answered with a 4-0 burst to pull within three, 23-20. After the Explorers extended the margin to five, Doogan buried consecutive three-pointers to give Richmond a 26-25 lead. La Salle briefly regained the advantage before Aneisha Scott ignited a 9-0 Spider run to put Richmond in front 35-27. The Explorers stopped the surge with a three, but Scott immediately responded with a layup and the Spiders continued their push, extending the lead to 44-30. A La Salle triple as time expired sent Richmond into halftime ahead 44-33.

Out of the break, Ullstrom scored inside before La Salle used a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to six, 46-40. Wright stopped the run with a layup, and Ullstrom and Scott combined for five points to stretch the lead to 55-42 midway through the quarter. After an Explorer and-one, Scott converted a free throw, and Persichetti added a layup to make it 58-45. La Salle answered with five straight, but Sam Dewey and Doogan each knocked down a three-pointer to help Richmond carry a 64-52 advantage into the final period.

La Salle opened the fourth with a three to trim the lead to nine, 64-55. Sweeney answered with a layup and Dewey followed with a triple to push the margin back to double digits. After a La Salle free throw, Doogan sparked a decisive 10-0 run with contributions from Scott and Tierra Simon to extend the lead to 79-56. The Explorers managed one more field goal before Wright scored seven straight points, Scott connected from beyond the arc and Payton Richard added a three-pointer to seal the 92-58 Senior Day victory.

Notes on the Game

Aneisha Scott finished with a career-high 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting, including 2-of-2 from three-point range. She also posted career highs in rebounds (3) and assists (3).
Maggie Doogan totaled 16 points, six rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal.
Rachel Ullstrom scored 12 points and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Rayne Wright added a career-high 11 points on 4-of-4 shooting and 3-of-3 at the free throw line.
Ally Sweeney dished out a team-high five assists, while Ava Persichetti recorded a career-high three steals. Sam Dewey knocked down three 3-pointers, finishing 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.
Richmond shot 34-of-60 from the field at 56.7 percent, 15-of-31 from three-point range at 48.4 percent and 9-of-12 at the free throw line. The Spiders totaled 38 rebounds, 22 assists, five blocks and seven steals.
Richmond scored 50 bench points, 36 points in the paint and 24 points off 15 La Salle turnovers. The game featured four lead changes and two ties.
Richmond improved to 29-8 all-time against La Salle and has won five straight in the series.
Richmond shot better than 55 percent from the field for the first time since 1/14/26 at Dayton.
The Spiders held La Salle to just six points in the fourth quarter.
