Doogan Surpasses 2,000 as Spiders Hold Davidson to Season Low

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Maggie Doogan surpassed 2,000 career points in the third quarter as the University of Richmond women's basketball team defeated Davidson 65-43 Saturday afternoon on the road. Doogan became just the third Spider in program history to reach the milestone as Richmond improved to 22-4 overall and 12-1 in Atlantic 10 Conference play and the Wildcats fell to 16-11 overall and 8-6 in league play. The victory extended the Spiders' win streak to 11 games.

How It Happened
Maggie Doogan opened the scoring with a three-pointer before Davidson answered with a layup. Ally Sweeney added a triple to push Richmond ahead 6-2, but the Wildcats responded with a basket to stay within two. Rachel Ullstrom converted inside to give the Spiders an 8-4 edge, yet Davidson closed the quarter on an 8-0 run to take a 12-8 lead into the second period.
Davidson extended its advantage with back-to-back layups to open the second quarter before Ullstrom and Doogan connected on consecutive three-pointers to cut the deficit to 16-14 at the 7:02 mark. Doogan tied the game at 16 with a layup, but the Wildcats knocked down three straight triples to build a 25-16 lead. Doogan (8) and Ava Persichetti (2) combined for 10 points over the final stretch of the half to help Richmond rally and take a 26-25 lead into the break.
Each team opened the third quarter with a layup before Alicia Newell and Doogan combined for four points to give Richmond a 32-27 advantage. Davidson answered inside, but Sam Dewey responded with a three-pointer to stretch the margin to 35-29. Ullstrom knocked down two triples around a Wildcat basket to push the lead to 41-33 midway through the quarter. After trading scores, Persichetti and Tierra Simon drained back-to-back three-pointers as the Spiders carried a 52-38 lead into the final period. Doogan reached the 2,000-point milestone at the 7:56 mark of the third quarter.
Davidson opened the fourth with a jumper before Doogan converted two free throws to make it 54-40. A Wildcat three-pointer trimmed the lead to 54-43, but Richmond responded with an 11-0 run to close the game and secure the 65-43 victory.

- Rachel Ullstrom recorded her 77th career double-figure game with 16 points and six rebounds, along with one block and one steal.
- Ally Sweeney totaled eight points and a team-high seven assists.
- Jada Green posted a career-high two steals.
- Richmond shot 25-of-50 from the field, 12-of-24 from three-point range and 3-of-3 from the free throw line. The Spiders finished with 29 rebounds, 13 assists, two blocks and six steals, while scoring 26 points in the paint and 12 points off 17 Davidson turnovers.
- Richmond improved to 12-4 all-time against Davidson and has won three straight on the road in the series.
- Ullstrom moved into third place all-time at Richmond with 260 career three-pointers.
- Richmond held Davidson to its lowest scoring output of the season while allowing its fewest points in conference play this year.
