RICHMOND, Va. – Richmond's bench scored 40 points and the Spiders forced a season-high 29 turnovers as the University of Richmond women's basketball team earned an 86-55 win over Duquesne on Wednesday night inside the Robins Center. With the win, Richmond improved to 17-4 overall and 7-1 in Atlantic 10 Conference play, while the Dukes fell to 7-14 overall and 0-10 in league action. The Spiders also improved to 9-1 at home and extended their home conference win streak to 29 straight.

How it Happened
Rachel Ullstrom opened the scoring with a 3-pointer before Duquesne answered with a pair of free throws. Maggie Doogan followed with a layup, but the Dukes responded with a jumper to keep it tight early, 5-4. Ullstrom buried her second 3-pointer of the quarter, and Ally Sweeney added two free throws as Richmond pushed in front, 10-6. Alicia Newell then helped ignite a 16-0 run as Richmond pulled away with contributions from Ullstrom and Doogan, capped by Rayne Wright's second career 3-pointer to send the Spiders into the second quarter ahead 26-6.

Richmond kept building in the second quarter, opening the frame on an 11-0 run to stretch the lead to 37-6 with 6:51 remaining. Duquesne snapped the drought with a 3-pointer, but Payton Richard answered from deep to maintain the cushion. The Dukes trimmed the margin to 27 late in the half, 45-18, before Aneisha Scott and Doogan combined for four free throws to keep Richmond in control. Duquesne scored on a layup at the buzzer as the Spiders took a 49-20 lead into halftime.

Both teams opened the third quarter with 3-pointers before Duquesne scored on back-to-back layups to cut the lead to 25, 52-27. Ullstrom ended a brief Richmond drought with a 3-pointer, but Duquesne answered with one of its own. The Spiders maintained a comfortable edge until Duquesne cut it to 60-40 with 3:07 left in the third. Richmond responded immediately as Ullstrom sparked an 8-0 run to push the lead to 69-42. Duquesne added a free throw late, as Richmond carried a 69-43 advantage into the fourth.

The Spiders opened the final quarter with a 9-0 run as Sam Dewey, Sweeney and Wright all scored to make it 78-43. Duquesne hit a 3-pointer to stop the run, but the Spiders answered with a Wright layup off a Duquesne turnover. After another 3-pointer from the Dukes cut it to 80-49, Scott scored back-to-back layups to extend the lead to 84-49. Ava Persichetti added Richmond's final basket, as the Dukes added six points to close out the 86-55 Richmond win.

Notes on the Game

Ullstrom led Richmond with 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including five 3-pointers. She added three rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Doogan and Dewey scored 14 points apiece. Doogan led the Spiders with five rebounds and added four assists and a steal. Dewey finished with three rebounds, two assists and a career-high three steals.
Richmond shot 28-of-62 (45.2 percent) from the floor, 15-of-36 (41.7 percent) from 3-point range and 15-of-21 (71.4 percent) at the free-throw line. The Spiders scored 37 points off 29 Duquesne turnovers, and the bench accounted for 40 points, led by Dewey.
Jada Green made her first collegiate start and matched up against her sister, Reina Green (Duquesne).
Wright matched a career-high nine points.
