Spider Field Hockey Falls to #1 Northwestern

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond field hockey team dropped a tough 4-0 decision to #1 Northwestern Sunday afternoon at Crenshaw Field.
The Spiders move to 1-1 on the season and return to action Friday, September 5 hosting James Madison at 5 PM at Crenshaw Field on ESPN+.
The Spiders held the Wildcats off the board in the first quarter, holding the visitors to just two shots and one corner.
NU got on the board in the 26th minute of the second quarter as the Wildcats upped the offensive pressure. NU had eight shots in the first half, up 1-0, to the Spiders two.
Both squads had six shots and two corners each in the third quarter, but the Wildcats were able to finish on two to increase the lead 3-0. Northwestern tallied two goals in a minute of action at the 33rd and 34th minutes of action to kick off the second half. A fourth Wildcat goal came in the 39th minute.
Goalkeeper Amanda Cimillo led a tough Spider defense, collecting four saves on the day while facing eight shots and seven Northwestern corners.
Richmond was held to eight shots with three on goal. Valen Luna Paratore paced the Spiders with five shots and two on frame.
