RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond Athletics has begun the process of creating new locker room and team room spaces for its soccer, women's lacrosse, men's basketball, and women's basketball programs in the Robins Center. The renovations began last month and are expected to be fully completed by mid-October.
Spider soccer will nearly double the square footage of its existing locker room, absorbing the footprint of what had been a lounge for the men's basketball team. Women's lacrosse is also increasing the size of its locker room, moving into a space that had been the locker room and lounge of the women's basketball team prior to the opening of the Queally Athletics Center in 2020. The additional space will allow for dedicated team areas and dressing counters and provide an individual locker for every lacrosse and soccer student-athlete.
Both the men's and women's basketball teams will utilize a completely renovated team room on game days this upcoming season. The courtside space, formerly the men's basketball locker room, will be used for pregame, halftime, and postgame team meetings for Spider basketball on game days. It includes restrooms, a team room, and a separate coaches' conference room. An adjacent room will be converted into a studio to support media production by Spider student-athletes and Athletics Public Relations.
The projects were funded by contributions to the Spider Athletic Fund.
Richmond's athletic facilities have consistently been ranked among the best in the nation. In the most recent rankings released by The Princeton Review, UR is ranked No. 8 for Best Athletic Facilities. Rendering of the new women's lacrosse locker room in the Robins Center
