Aoki Collects 600th Career Win Saturday Over VCU

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond baseball team defeated VCU, 6-3, Saturday at The Diamond, capturing Head Coach Mik Aoki's 600th career victory over 24 seasons at the helm of five NCAA Division I programs.
Richmond, now 31-17 on the year and 12-14 in Atlantic 10 Conference action, will go for the series sweep of VCU, 14-36 on the season and 7-19 in league play, Sunday with a 1 p.m. first pitch at The Diamond and on ESPN+.
Brady O'Brien put the Spiders on the board in the first with the first of two doubles on the day, scoring Aaron Whitley and Jordan Jaffe. Whitley collected two stolen bases on the day, one in the first and one in the second to move to 32 stolen bases on the year.
VCU answered in the bottom of the frame with a two-run home run off Esteban Rodriguez. Rodriguez would settle on the mound, collecting the victory after going seven innings while scattering three runs on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
O'Brien retook the lead for Richmond, 4-2, in the third with a two-run home run to right field for his team-leading 18th home run of the season. RJ Rickabaugh hit an RBI double left field to score DJ Pacheco.
Pacheco picked up O'Brien with a two-out base hit to left for an insurance run in the sixth.
VCU got a run back in the fifth, but Rodriguez then retired seven-straight before Ryan Bilka took over on the mound. Bilka collected his third save of the season after working around four hits, a UR error and one hit batter over two innings of work to get the double play for the Richmond victory.
