Spiders Fall to VCU in A-10 Championship Final

ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team's historic season came to a close Sunday afternoon as the Spiders fell 4-1 to No. 5 seed VCU in the Atlantic 10 Championship final at the USTA National Campus. Richmond finished the year with a 16-7 overall record, its most wins in a season since 2009.
How It Happened
VCU claimed the doubles as Lara Bakhaya and Andrea Campodonico pushed their match to a tiebreak win, 7-6, on court one. Elizabeth Novak and Sofia Barbulescu also forced a tiebreak at court two but ultimately fell 7-6. VCU took court three 6-1 to secure the early 1-0 advantage.
Campodonico posted the lone singles win for the Spiders in her final match with a 7-6, 6-1 win over Tania Isabel Andrade Sabando (VCU) at No. 2. The Rams picked up straight-set wins at courts five and six and then rounded out the win on court three, 6-4, 6-1.
