Baseball Sweeps Season Series Against Longwood

FARMVILLE, Va. – The University of Richmond baseball team defeated Longwood University Tuesday night at Buddy Bolding Stadium, 7-1, to take the season series.
With the victory, Richmond moves to 26-13 on the season. The Spiders, 7-11 in league play, return to Pitt Field to host Saint Louis (23-17 / 11-7) in Atlantic 10 Conference action this weekend. First pitch on Friday, April 25 is set for 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
The Spiders got on the board in the second inning, taking advantage two hits and two Lancer miscues to score three runs. Jack Arcamone got the bats going with a double then scored on a Longwood error. RJ Rickabaugh then doubled in Michael Elko for the second run while DJ Pacheco scored on a ground out.
Glenn Smith, now 2-0 on the season, tossed three scoreless innings to get the win. He worked around three hits and a walk and collected a strikeout. Sam Young also tossed two scoreless frames, allowing a walk and two hit batters with two strikeouts.
Jason Shockley tossed an immaculate sixth inning, using just nine pitches to collect three strikeouts. In the seventh he was tagged with one unearned run on two hits, and two more strikeouts.
The Spiders tagged on three more runs in the eighth as the first five batters reached and forced in two runs. Aaron Whitley led off with a double before Phil Bernstein drew a walk. Jordan Jaffe loaded the bases after he beat out a bunt single. Arcamone was hit to force in the first run then Brady O'Brien drew a walk to bring in the second.
In the ninth, the Spiders loaded the bases again combining a hit batter, a bunt single and a walk. Bernstein drew a walk to force in the Spiders seventh run of the game.
Angel Santiago-Cruz threw two scoreless innings, hitting one and walking two while striking out the side in the ninth.
