Spider Baseball Sweeps Four Game Weekend Series

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond baseball team defeated Lafayette 16-3 in seven innings Sunday afternoon at Pitt Field to sweep the four-game series against Lafayette and UMass Lowell.
With the victory, Richmond moves to 14-2 on the season and captures the program's seventh-straight victory. The Spiders are back in action Tuesday, hosting Longwood for a 1:30 p.m. first pitch at Pitt Field on ESPN+.
Lafayette scored first in the second inning, tallying three runs on four hits. Richmond then scored 16 unanswered runs over the next four innings.
Michael Elko put the Spiders on the board with a two-run home run to right field for the first two of his six RBI on the day. Cole Palmeri picked up an RBI base hit to tie the game at 3-all. Connor Larson scored on a ground out to take a 4-3 lead.
The first three batters of the third inning all reached on base hits and one came home on Jack Arcamone's single to right. Two more runs came home on a failed double play turn by Lafayette. The fourth and fifth runs scored on Phil Bernstein's base hit before the Leopards got the final out on a play at the plate.
Jordan Jaffe picked up a double to lead off the fourth for his second of three hits in three-straight innings. Jaffe scored on Brady O'Brien's single to left before O'Brien scored on a groundout to push the Spiders lead to 11-3.
With two outs and the bases loaded, Elko cleared the bases with a triple down the right field line. DJ Pacheco picked up Elko when he launched a two-run home run two pitches later for his third hit of the day.
Jackson Kraemer allowed three runs on five hits in an inning and two-thirds of an inning. Ryan Bilka collected the victory after tossing two and a third of an inning of scoreless action, allowing two hits, a walk and striking out two. Brian Reinke, Sam Young and Dane Armson each tossed a single inning of work against the Leopards.
