Palmeri, Kennedy Blasts the Spiders Past the Dukes

Richmond, now 21-4 on the year, returns to Pitt Field to host Fordham in Atlantic 10 Conference action on Friday. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
Aaron Whitley sent the first pitch of the game to left center for a double. Jordan Jaffe got a base hit and Jack Arcamone walked to load the bases for Brady O'Brien. O'Brien scored Whitley and Jaffe with a base hit down the right field line. DJ Pacheco picked up Arcamone with an RBI single to center to give UR a 3-0 lead after a half inning.
Richmond starter Gerry Peacock allowed one run in the first then held JMU scoreless for two more innings. Peacock scattered three hits, a walk and a hit batter over three innings of work.
Grant Kennedy picked up his first collegiate home run to right field in the second inning. Arcamone followed with an RBI double to left to score Jaffe and to push UR's lead to 5-1.
Cole Palmeri clobbered his first home run of the season in the third, hitting 420-foot three-run blast to left center, giving the Spiders an 8-1 advantage.
JMU tallied two runs in the fourth on three hits and one in the seventh, as Spider relievers Chayse Gruber and Tyler Rigot both tossed two plus scoreless frames each. Gruber
Richmond added two insurance runs in the sixth and eighth to take a 12-4 lead. Whitley scored on a sacrifice fly before Jaffe scored on DJ Pacheco's base hit to left in the sixth. Arcamone scored on Michael Elko's ground out before O'Brien scored on Connor Larson's sacrifice fly.
