PHILADELPHIA – The University of Richmond baseball team avoided being swept Sunday, collecting a 12-10 victory over Saint Joseph's at Smithson Field in Atlantic 10 action. With the win, the Spiders improve to 20-4 on the year and 4-2 in league play.

Richmond is back in action Tuesday taking on James Madison in Harrisonburg with first pitch set for 4 p.m. on ESPN+.

The Spiders struck first, taking a 3-0 lead in the first on one hit, a Hawks miscue, and three walks. Jack Arcamone picked up Aaron Whitley from second with a base hit to left for the first run of the frame. With the bases loaded, Jordan Jaffe scored on a Hawks throwing error before Arcamone scored on a ground out.

Saint Joseph's answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the first on UR starter Jackson Hinchliffe. Hinchliffe gave up three runs on three hits, a walk and a wild pitch before being replaced by Brian Reinke. Reinke tossed four scoreless frames, scattering one hit, a hit batter and three walks to collect the win.

The Spiders added two more runs in the second on a sacrifice fly and a ground out for a 5-3 lead. Arcamone hit a grand slam in the fourth, collecting his seventh home run of the year, to put the Spiders up 9-3. UR added a single run in the fifth on a ground out.

The Hawks added six runs on three hits as three Spider hurlers made appearances in the sixth. Jason Shockley and Chayse Gruber combined to allow all six runs on two hits, five walks and three wild pitches. Dylan Siesky gave up a hit then struck out three to end the frame.

DJ Pacheco launched his third home run over the trees in left field to put Richmond up 12-9 in the top of the eighth. Angel Santiago-Cruz picked up his second save of the week after he held the Hawks to just one run on one hit and a walk over two innings of work.
