
Nwakalor has Record-Breaking Day at Cavalier Invite

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Richmond women's swimming and diving team competed in the fifth annual Cavalier Invite hosted by Virginia at the Aquatic and Fitness Center. Highlighting the day was sophomore Melissa Nwakalor, who had a record-breaking performance.

Day One
In the preliminaries, Nwakalor won the 50 free with a time of 21.98, dropping 0.30 seconds from her previous record of 22.28. Her time set a new school and Atlantic 10 record. Nwakalor's time was the fastest of the day among 30 swimmers on Thursday morning.

Freshman Hannah Wieczorek competed in the 500 free, finishing ninth with a time of 5:04.59 in the preliminaries.

Senior Carstyn Klosterman swam in the 200 IM, placing 11th with a time of 2:05.68.

In the time trials for the 200 free, junior Caitlyn Hughes posted the best time at 1:53.25.
The Spiders are back in action tomorrow at 11 a.m. for the second day of the Cavalier Invite.
Day Two
In the preliminaries, sophomores Erin Budde and Kaitlyn Bauer finished with personal best times in the 200 free Friday morning. Budde finished 10th with a time of 1:51.45 and Bauer finished 12th with a time of 1:51.96.Â

In the time trials, senior Laura Davis finished first in the 200 breast with a time of 2:19.38. In the 200 fly, senior Carys Edgar finished with a personal best time of 2:08.54.Â

Up next for the Spiders is the Atlantic 10 Championships on Feb. 19-22. Richmond will compete at 10 a.m. in the preliminaries and at 6 p.m. in the finals.Â
